Sambaguru - Tribo

Sambaguru is a great band with seven members including the lovely leading lady Kátia Moraes. The musicians come from Brazil, Sri Lanka and the United States and together they share their love of Brazilian music. In 2000 and 2001 the band was nominated in the best World Music category for the New Times Newspaper Music Awards and music from the band was featured on the musical score of the film Woman on top with Penélope Cruz. On Tribu Sambaguru continues making fine albums with a lot variety, from samba to jazz and back including many other Brazilian styles and influences, like pagode and forró. On the album cover we see a big fire, maybe a symbol for the musical passion we feel on Tribu. Starting with the powerful feel good song Tribo Gandhista we are immediately in the right mood. Bananeira brings us a jazzy relaxed vibe, it ain't hard to see yourself under that Banana Tree, drinking some fine cocktails:)! Fogo de Palha could be an ode to the filmdrama with the same name of by Canuto Mendes de Almeida premiered in 1926 but more logic is the meaning of the words: enthusiasm! Everything that's you is the only song in English, it's a nice jazz ballad to bring on the wine! Then there's more jazz to come but also a pagode and a forró-song to bring the fire back. In the final swinging sambatrack Belaza da Mulher Brasileira Kátia sings about the beauty of the Brazilian Woman. I've been in Brazil too and after my trip even I wanted to write a song about the beauty of the women there:)!  For the Spanish musiclovers there is also a Spanish Version Bonus Track on the album of the song Tribu Gandhista. Special guests on this album are Oscar Castro-Neves, Paul Jackson Jr, Justo Almaro, Siedah Garrett (lyricist) and The Vine Street Horns. The message of Sambaguru is clear: expressing the universal longing for joy, peace and harmony and with Tribo they're on their way again to spread it loud!
